Saccular cyst |

This saccular cyst is located overlying the left front true vocal cord. The saccule is a pocket that secretes mucous located over the true vocal cord but below or actually in the undersurface of the false vocal cord. If it enlarges enough, the sac may touch the vocal cord at various tensions and interefere with phonation. This view is with a rigid scope.

And with the addition of topical anesthesia, one can look under the cyst and see that the true vocal cord is normal up to the anterior commisure and that the cyst merely sits on top of the vocal cord. |
Vocal cord papilloma |
 |
Laryngeal papilloma - warts of the vocal cords. Although benign, they can grow enough to make the voice bad and breathing difficult. |

For various reasons, the patient above needed to wait for four months before removing the papilloma. They have grown during that time. |

Though papillomas have a high rate of recurrence, they can at times be cured with meticulous surgery. This view is taken 5 months after the surgery to remove the papilloma. Fiberoptic endoscope. |

This is the same patient 4 years, 4 months after the third excision and there is still no recurrence. The laryngoscope has changed to a Pentax video scope. |
