Laryngeal Photos: Mucosal disorders: Sulcus | |
|
A laryngeal sulcus is nearly invisible during quiet breathing. A sulcus is likely formed when a cyst of the vocal cords ruptures and the skin lining the cyst prevents healing and leaves a groove in the vocal folds. The arrows are pointing to it. Compare with the next photo. |

A laryngeal sulcus visible during inspiratory phonation. The act of attempted inspiratory phonation draws the folds together while air is pulling inward and the lower lip of the sulcus is pulled open. |
