Male to female vocal surgeryListen to a Lecture I delivered at HBGIDA symposium in Bologna, Italy on April 8, 2005 on the results of Feminization Laryngoplasty and a variation was given at Esprit 2005 in Port Angeles, Washington on May 19th. I updated and expanded the lecture on both CTA and Feminization Laryngoplasty for the June 2005 34th Annual Voice Foundation Meeting. I plan to give lectures this year in First Event Boston, Esprit Port Angeles Wa, San Jose (California Dreamin), Chicago (Be-All) and Atlanta (Southern Comfort). Feminization laryngoplastyThis surgery, Feminization Laryngoplasty or FemLar removes the anterior portion of the voice box (thyroid cartilage) and shortens the vocal cords before putting the voice box back together. On the second and some subsequent cases I have added a thyrohyoid suspension depending on my preoperative assessment. The cases below are selected partially because I was able to follow them up with good voice recordings and they have had vocal outcomes that are very acceptable. I have put the results of several procedures up for review. Case 1 (2003) 43 yo (quicktime) Case 4 (2004) 49 yo (quicktime) Case 8 (2004) 56 yo (quicktime) Case 24 (2005) 31 yo (quicktime) Case 29 (2006) 50 yo (quicktime) Case 31 (2006) 30 yo with previous failed cricothryroid approximation (quicktime) Case 34 (2006) 44 yo (quicktime) Case 42 (2006) 50 yo (flash) Case 48 (2007) 64 yo (flash) Cricothryoid approximationThis surgery, Cricothyroid approximation tightens the open space between the cricoid cartilage and the thyroid cartilage. I have put the results of four successful procedures up for review. These are selected cases and not in order. Case 1 (2002) 46 yo Case 2 (2001) 51 yo Case 3 (2002) 55 yo Case 4 (2004) 26 yo |
