Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah - the land of national parks and forests. Remembering the two week summer car vacations of my childhood, I didn't want Morgan and Sydney to miss the grandeur in our backyard because of the history and food of Europe.
In the grand tradition of the 1960's we took a two week drive through the west. From the funky college town of Missoula, Montana to the 30 degree night camping by Yellowstone falls with the buffalo we sampled the west.

Geysers & hot springs awed us, 40 mile per hour winds rocked our van on Wyoming's highways and Jackson Hole emptied our pocketbooks. Mammonth hot springs seemed less impressive than my childhood memories, though the ranger assured me it was as active as ever.
We collected rocks from alongside the road as memories to place in our garden - it is a good thing we had a van. While the adults generally enjoyed the scenery, the kids seem to get the most kick out of all the large animals in Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Parks.
