Why?
|
Why did I decide to join a university and go on a fellowship?
- Quality
- Doing the best job possible.
- Teaching
- I enjoy my time with residents, medical students and other groups wanting to learn.
- Opportunity
- It seldom knocks twice, but it did for me and with a second invitation to join Oregon Health Sciences University, I couldn't pass it up.
- Original thinker
- I recognized and spent fellowship time with a physician who could teach how to incisively observe human behavior and pathology.
- Maximum capacity
- As knowledge expands and I age, I cannot keep up with sheer memorization so I narrowed and changed my focus in medicine.
- Supply and demand
- Actually, very few people deal strictly with voice disorders (the small supply) and everyone has hoarseness sometime in their life (the big demand).
- Managed care
- A euphemism degrading the word care. By joining a larger group, I increase my leverage in dealing with these financial behemoths.
