In sickness and in health. That's the way they put it at that church in Toronto three and a half years ago. Everyone has their turn. A week in the hospital for Susan this summer set back Blue Cross about five thousand dollars. Our share was less than that. It would certainly have been a stressful year without health insurance.

Aside from slowly getting better over the next five months we now have some insight into Susan's mind with the help of an intense magnetic field. See below. Susan spent about an hour in an MRI scanner to evaluate some weakness in her legs. We've got the picture even if we don’t know exactly what makes her tick. Happily she reports gradual improvement, with sensation returning to her feet early in December. This year it is her feet that are starting to move better.

It was a year to experience medicine from two perspectives; the provider and the consumer.
